Whimsical Ekhos Exhibition

Atus Gallery, Dubai, UAE — 2024

Whimsical Ekhos is a collection of works by Kuala Lumpur-based visual artist Sadaf Farasat, presented at Atus Gallery in Dubai — a city that sits at the crossroads of the ancient and the contemporary, and a fitting stage for an artist whose work moves between both worlds.

The exhibition brings together paintings rooted in Sufi philosophy and the poetry of Rumi, rendered through Sadaf's signature visual language: the Whirling Dervish in mid-turn, suspended between the earthly and the divine. These figures — spinning atop Mughal domes, dissolving into fields of light, merging with architectural ruins — are not mere subject matter. They are metaphors for the soul's continuous longing for God.

Ekhos — an intentional misspelling of "echoes" — speaks to the way these ancient spiritual resonances surface unexpectedly in modern life. A whirl of white cloth. A shaft of golden light. The geometry of a forgotten minaret. The works do not recreate the past; they let it reverberate.

Painting Rumi's verses for over a decade, Sadaf approaches each canvas as both devotion and discovery. Her palette shifts between warm earth tones and vivid bursts of blue and gold, grounding mystical themes in a sensory, visceral experience. The result is work that feels at once contemplative and alive.

Whimsical Ekhos marks Sadaf Farasat's continued dialogue with the Gulf arts community, inviting viewers into a space where spiritual longing, painterly craft, and the echoes of civilisations past find a shared — if fleeting — home.
